Arthritis SA is urging South Australians to register, fundraise and take part in the walk to show support of children with arthritis. Your efforts will make a real difference to their lives.

During the 5km walk, there will be Mickey Mouse and other beloved Disney characters to greet children on the way to Glenelg beach where the walk ends. You will be provided with transport back to Brighton if you need it. Please let us know if you are concerned about walking the distance and we will make arrangements for you.

Youngsters under 12 years can register for the walk for free and adults can register for $30. Everyone registered will receive a free Walk for Arthritis T-Shirt through the generosity of Westpac. Once you are registered you will be automatically directed to our fundraising page.Otherwise you can visit http://makingadifference.gofundraise.com.au/page/WalkforArthritis and start fundraising. Meanwhile, everyone who takes part will be in the running for fabulous prizes – especially the biggest fundraiser.

Among walkers will be some of the littlest South Australians suffering from arthritis. It even strikes babies, sometimes causing pain and debilitation throughout their lives. FAQs

Is there an age limit to enter the event?

No. Anyone is welcome to participate but they must register and attempt the walk which takes place on the sand from Brighton Jetty to Glenelg Jetty. Those who may be really struggling on the day because of their arthritis can be transported at the outset of the walk to a spot close to the finish line. However, exercise and movement are important for those with arthritis, so everyone who registers is encouraged to walk. It doesn’t matter how long you take. It’s not a race.

What are my transport/parking options getting to the event?

You can park on The Esplanade at Brighton Beach. You may also park a little further away from the starting spot on Dunluce Avenue, Alfreda Street or Beach Road.

What time do I need to be at Brighton?

You can check-in, at our desk next to Brighton Jetty, from 8.15 AM onwards. Everyone is asked to be at the check-in point by 9.15AM at the latest. Remember to allow time for parking and walking to the check-in point.

What will happen if it’s a really hot day?

The walk will go on. Because it starts at 9.30AM, it will finish before the serious heat of the day hits. Remember to wear a hat, use sun screen and take water with you.  Sunscreen and water will also be available at check-points along the walk.

How will I get back to my car?

Arthritis SA has arranged transport for those returning to their cars. You will be asked if you will need this when you check-in before the walk. The fit and able may wish to wander along the beach back to Brighton if it’s a beautiful day.

When will I receive my T-Shirt?

T-Shirts are being provided by courtesy of Westpac. There are 3 options available for you to collect your t-shirt. Arthritis SA can either post it to you for a small charge of $10 or you can collect it from our office at 118 Richmond Road, Marleston 5033. They will be posted and available for collection between Monday 16th March - Friday 27th March 2015. Alternatively, t-shirts can be collected from our registration desk on the day. It is a requirement that all participants wear the supplied t-shirt.

The name on the registration doesn't match the attendee. Is that okay?

Please contact us on 8379 5711 or email kate.bacon@arthritissa.org.au to provide us with the name of attendee for insurance purposes.

Will I be able to get something to eat and drink?

Refreshments will be available, for gold coin donations, at the end of the walk.
