DO Details

Join a small group and enjoy a tasty two or three course banquet at bohemian cafe Parliament on King.

You’ll sample food from the homelands of asylum seekers and refugees (think Burmese/Rohingya, Iraqi, Iranian, Palestinean, Nepali, Sri Lankan, Ugandan and more).

Each dinner banquet has a different chef and menu, and we often keep it a surprise until the night. Your hosts will invite the chefs to share their stories, and you’re more than welcome to ask them questions about the food they’ve prepared and their stories of how they have come to Australia.

The dinner is hosted in the cosy front room of Parliament on King. Parliament on King’s mission is simple: to make lovely food. But in doing this they address the barriers to economic, social and cultural participation asylum seekers, refugees and recent arrivals to Australia face, by providing real work, training and community.

All proceeds from this event go towards funding Parliament on King’s important work.

Dietary requirements including vegan and vegetarian are easily catered for, please just note this when booking.

Reviews from past guests:

What a great night: I joined Justin for the Refugee Chef Dinner Banquet, and what a great event it was. Delicious food, learning more about the work of Parliament on King, and I could tell Justin and his crew would run incredible tours and experiences. I'll be recommending them, especially to out-of-town visitors, but I should do some myself! (Andy)

A great experience with fantastic food: I think the best things in life are often the ones where you go without any preconceived thoughts. That was the case for me last night. I enjoyed the whole event from the other guests round the table to our chats with Ravi, the owner of Parliament on King and Justin the organiser of the Refugee Chef dinner. It was a delicious banquet and I have some leftovers for lunch today. I want to do it again. Thanks! (Brad)

Absolutely incredible dinner: I've already been to two of these dinners and each time has been fantastic. It's a lovely night out that not only provides an excellent meal but allows you to meet new people and hear their stories. Each chef brings their own charm and humanity to the meal they are sharing that makes the night all the more meaningful. Parliament on King has a nice, cosy atmosphere that really lends to the vibe. I also cannot stress enough how good the food is. (Andrew)
