Surf Mermaid Charity Screening - Has Ended
DO Details
Since escaping from paradise, Josie Jones has become a local warrior for change on the Mornington Peninsula. Surf Mermaid is a documentary which tells the inspirational story of how she overcame adversity to create a legacy.
In Summer this year the documentary Surf Mermaid by student filmmaker Charlotte Rowson won "Best Documentary" at the renowned Peninsula Film Festival. Due to the volume of requests to see the film, we have decided to run a charity screening with Steve Bastoni as MC. The intention behind the screening is to raise awareness and therefore create conversation around the subjects raised in the film. The funds raised for the event will be shared between Uniforms 4U and RU OK? We welcome philanthropists to match funds raised to assist these incredible causes.
There will be drinks and nibbles prior to the screening, with Steve Bastoni running a panel of discussion after the 13 minute short documentary.
The subject, Josie Jones, was awarded Australia Day Citizen of the year 2019 by the Mornington Peninsula Shire, one week prior to the screening of Surf Mermaid. The 2 events are separate in nature, but a lovely irony. Josie is a gentle advocate for the environment, concentrating on preserving and protecting the Marine environment of Port Phillip Bay, home to Melbourne and the Bellarine and Mornington Peninsula's. Josie has found a way to incorporate her love for creating designs that have, a positive impact on intended outcomes. For the purpose of creating better outcomes, with campaigns to educate the community and visitors on litter prevention to local environments.
