Australian Premiere: Murder on the Reef - Has Ended
DO Details
Our Great Barrier Reef is a place of vast biodiversity. It is the largest living structure on Earth which is visible from space, it's an international icon and part of our national identity. Unfortunately, it is in grave danger.
Our Reef is under threat from industrial coal port expansions, chemical farm run-off and coal spills. However, the single biggest threat to our Reef is climate change. In 2016 and 2017 two massive marine heatwaves killed half of its shallow water corals. These heatwaves were caused by climate change which is mainly driven by mining and burning coal.
"Murder on the Reef" focuses on the fight that has been happening on land around governance of the reef's health. The film features top coral and marine research scientists in Australia, along with locals, activists, politicians and indigenous leaders, who are all warning of further catastrophic events and the need to urgently act on climate change.
Join us on our trip to witness a war on land over the underwater paradise. The screening will be followed by a Q&A panel of the producers of the documentary, as well as the Reef campaign director of the Australian Marine Conservation Society. All proceeds from this event go to the Fight for our Reef campaign.
