Do you live in the Townsville region and have a Deaf Dog?
WE WANT TO MEET YOU!

Please join us at 4pm Sunday 1st July at The Palmetum to take part in our 2018 DEAF DOG PHOTO CHALLENGE!

The Townsville team will be making an attempt to win back the title in our Deafie Photo Challenge to get as many deaf dogs in one photo as we can.

The record is currently held by the Canberra HNE team with a total of FOURTEEN deafies in one pic - Double the townsville teams original tally!
We need as many local deaf dogs and owners to help us reclaim our title so please come on down and see us!

We missed reclaiming the title last year by just ONE deafie!

Get your deafies prepped and pretty and meet us at 4pm at the gates of the Palmetum gardens where we can get your details and head on to have the group photo taken.

Last year we held it in conjunction with the Pet Expo but this year we are opting for a quieter, less crowded, low key gathering so that the dogs can be much more relaxed and the handlers less stressed with much more spacious location with LOTS of space to spread out, very low foot traffic area, and even nervous dogs can attend.

Each deafie who joins us for the challenge will receive a certificate of participation, a small gift plus a copy of the group photo as a Thankyou!

WILL YOU BE THERE?

Let us know by registering your details Below.

Its completely free and for a good cause!

Don't forget to share with anyone you know with a deaf dog in townsville region!

* Nervous and socially awkward deafies and humans alike are most welcome to participate. The garden location gives us plenty of space to buffer your dog from others if required.

** It’s a great idea to bring some high value treats for your dog on the day, and be rewarding them heavily during the event to ensure they are on their best behaviour and have great handler focus.

*** ALL dogs must be ON LEAD and under effective control at all times. You are responsible for your dog and it’s actions including any and all damage/injury to themselves, others or property.

HNE will in no way be held liable for any incidents on the day.

FAQS.

Does my dog need to be Deaf to attend?

Yes, if you are participating in the Deaf Dog Photo Challenge your dog will only be counted if they are Deaf.

Do I have to have proof my dog is Deaf?

No, we believe you. We’ve been around enough deafies to be able to tell if your fibbing.

DO Supports

Hear No Evil - Australian Deaf Dog Rescue is Australia's first and only Deaf specific rescue. We are often referred to as simply Hear No Evil, sometimes abbreviated as HNE or also Aust. Deaf Dog Rescue Hear No Evil is a registered non-profit rescue group (non-profit ABN: 67278965320) and a registered charity with deductible gift recipient status. We are run by a committee of volunteers abiding by all animal welfare regulations and ethics. We are a legitimate and ethical nation-wide rescue, with a case by case approach to each individual dog and potential adopter. We are a foster care based rescue, which means we do not have a shelter or kennels, all our dogs go into home environments where they are exposed to the day to day experiences of family life. We take in all breeds, all ages, all conditions, but we can only do as much as our current resources allow. Our first priority is to dogs at risk of euthanasia in council pounds and shelters, or neglect and abuse cases. Secondly we take in 'rescue transfers', where we assist main stream rescues by taking on the deafies they have in care in order to free up space so that they may help other 'hearing' dogs in need. From there we take on private surrenders, from a multitude of situations, not always with negative backgrounds. Sometimes it is in the best interest of the dogs to come into rescue care. Please note that we do NOT chase dogs to be surrendered to us, we help those genuinely in need when they approach us directly through official contact. We are entirely run by Volunteers, from a variety of backgrounds and experiences, who all spend much of their own time and money to help our dogs in care. Among our volunteers we have a number of professionals including dog trainers - qualified and studying, vet/vet nurses and studying vet students, experienced deaf dog owners, pet industry workers, Auslan interpreters, animal advocates, agility participants, therapy dog and working dog handlers among an assortment of other professions and experience. We are entirely self-funded, we do not receive any government funding or grants. All money received by adoption fees, bake sales, bbq's, photo booths, raffles and other fundraisers goes directly back to covering the costs of our dogs and honorary canines in need. It pays vet bills both standard and emergency, day to day supplies, food, wormer, shampoo, enrichment toys and transport. We are a 'No Kill' rescue. This means we DO NOT euthanise dogs for space or because they have been in care too long, nor because they are deemed un appealing to adopt. We have a duty of care for each animal we take in as well as our carers, volunteers and the public. The only circumstances for euthanasia in our rescue is if the dog is considered mentally and/or physically unsound, and this is only after professional advice from both a qualified dog trainer/behaviourist AND a practicing veterinarian. It is not a decision taken lightly, and it is never done in haste. We strongly believe in quality of life, and we give every dog in our care the best chance they can to overcome any behaviour or medical issues in order to live happy, healthy, safe lives. #Adoptadeafie
