From Trauma to Triumph - Has Ended
DO Details
Each year on International Women's Day, we celebrate the trials and triumphs of women the world over. This year, PROJECT FUTURES will team up with Free To Shine to host an event in Noosa that talks about the ripple effect that one person can have on thousands of lives - simply by having the courage to make waves.
International human rights activist, founder, best-selling author and survivor of sex slavery, Somaly Mam, as well as fellow survivor Sina Vann will join CEO of PROJECT FUTURES Clare Pearson and Co-Founder of Free To Shine, Nicky Mih to discuss some of the uncomfortable truths affecting millions of women and girls around the world.
According to research released in 2017 by Alliance 8.7, 99% of victims of sexual exploitation are women, an issue that is rife in countries like Cambodia where the lives of women and girls are undervalued or not valued at all.
Travelling from Cambodia to Australia, both Somaly and Sina have a powerful story to share that will engage both new and existing audiences to become powerful advocates for change.
The event will centre around the movement that Somaly Mam has created by turning her trauma into triumph by founding an organisation that supports other victims; changing the lives of over 7000 women and girls in Cambodia and inspiring the creation of two not for profits in Australia.
