The hit Broadway musical, Nunsense, returns to the stage courtesy of Mac’s Musicals, Birkdale. Nunsense is a hilarious spoof about the misadventures of five nuns trying to organise a fundraiser to inter their dearly departed sisters. Apart from five nuns who were at Bingo (the cast of the show), the rest of the sisterhood, unfortunately, dies from botulism after eating vichyssoise soup prepared by Sister Julia. Thus, the remaining nuns – ballet-loving Sister Leo (played by Isabelle Wicks), street-wise Sister Robert Anne (played by Bronwyn Craig), befuddled Sister Mary Amnesia (played by Zoe Costello), the Mother Superior, Sister Regina (played by Amy Wicks), and mistress of the novices, Sister Mary Hubert (played by Melissa Manion) – stage a talent show to raise the money to bury their dearly departed.
Funds raised from this production will go toward assisting the development of an orphanage sponsored by Saint Mary Mackillop Catholic Parish in East Timor.
Performances will be staged at the Southern Cross Centre at Saint Mary Mackillop Primary School, 12 Hardy Rd. Birkdale. Performance dates are August 18-19 and August 25-26. Evening performances are 7.30 pm (Friday and Saturday) with 2 matinees on the Saturday at 2.00pm.
