The Canberra Times Fun Run, presented by Westpac, is set to hit the nation’s capital on Father’s Day, with more than 5,000 runners expected to take part. Now in its 42nd year, the fun run continues to bring people together to celebrate fitness, while aiming to raise over $125,000 for a wide variety of charities.
Participants have the option to challenge themselves across the 5km, 10km and 14km courses in 2017, with all distances offering unrivalled views of both the Parliamentary Triangle and Lake Burley Griffin. With entries for the event, which opened today, falling in the middle of Men’s Health Week 2017 (June 12-18), there is a great opportunity for participants to support one of the many male focused charities with their fundraising efforts. Anyone planning to sign up is also reminded that they will receive a $20 discount on their registration fee up until July 11.
Organisers are encouraging participants to take up the challenge and enjoy the on course music, food trucks, dancers and other live entertainment at the event village. There are also family packages available that make for a great Father’s Day gift for Dad, allowing the whole family to get involved.
Fairfax Events’ Head of Sport, Sarah Young said that The Canberra Times Fun Run accommodates all participants, and with plenty to offer both on and off the course, it is the perfect way to start Father’s Day.
“Once again it will be great to see people of all fitness levels tackling such an iconic course. Families will once again be able to celebrate Father’s Day by getting out on the course with their Dad, pushing and motivating each other whilst taking in all the spectacular course views,” Young said.
Adding to the day is the live entertainment and food and beverage trucks in the event village, as well as the prize giveaways that will be on offer.”
Regional General Manager ACT Westpac Retail Banking, Daniel Flowers explained that Westpac was delighted to be back again as the event’s presenting partner.
“Westpac is thrilled to come on board as presenting partner for The Canberra Times Fun Run for the fourth year in a row. We’re excited to be part of such a key event for the community and continue our support in raising funds and awareness for the Westpac Lifesaver Rescue Helicopter Service so that they can conduct vital patrols and rescues across Australia.
“As presenting partner we look forward to building on last year’s efforts to deliver another outstanding event. Westpac is providing a number of on course activities to keep runners entertained and motivated to make it to that finish line,” Flowers said.
In 2017, participants can choose to raise funds for a wide variety of charities, enabling runners to choose to support their preferred cause. There are three ways that the participants can raise money for their chosen charity as part of The Canberra Times Fun Run. Participants can be a hero for their favourite charity or cause, make a one-off donation upon completing their registration for the event, or supporters can sponsor a friend or family member who is participating on the day.
