As always, we will have a raffle running during the High Tea, with some wonderful prizes on offer. Tickets are $1 each or 6 for $5.

This year we will also have a “Talents Table”, showcasing items created by our guests. This is to highlight ways in which fibromyalgia sufferers can find joy while living with the illness.

Having Fibromyalgia can seriously limit the types of activities that we can regularly include in our everyday lives. However, there are a number of hobbies, such as arts and crafts, music and writing that are Fibro-friendly and can have benefits for pain management and mental health.

Hobbies such as knitting, crocheting, painting, drawing and playing music can be a kind of mindfulness meditation for many people and can help to relax the mind. When we are engaged in an activity that we enjoy, the brain releases serotonin, norepinephrine and dopamine and these chemicals help with pain sensitivity and anxiety.

Our Fibro-friendly hobbies have also been shown to help delay or even prevent the onset of dementia, so perhaps this helps us with our Fibro fog brains? These types of hobbies also allow us to create something, which gives a sense of achievement and pride (more good brain chemicals).

At this year’s High Tea for Hope, we’d love to see what the results of these hobbies are.

Everyone is invited to submit an item to be displayed on the day, with or without a background story about the piece. You can even choose to donate the item to be raffled off during the event.

If you have something you’d like to put on display for the day and maybe even donate to our raffle, please contact Chris Fenton at chris.fsnwa@gmail.com and answer these questions:

What is it you want to display?

Is there an interesting story behind it?

Would you like to include this piece in the day’s raffle?
