I’ve done a style 360° this week and take fashion from formal to fitness. When you’re registering for your next CharityDo’s athletic event, consider some style information and tips in choosing activewear that will guarantee a few extra likes for your ‘healthies’ on your Instagram account. Activewear is a booming fashion market and sporty luxe is no longer just a trend but a fashion market that is here to stay. With advances in technology and manufacturing and a new focus on hip and stylish designs, working up a sweat in style is the new norm. Activewear is no longer relegated…
Just who invented the cocktail party is up for debate. Americans claim the invention as their own when in 1917 a Mrs Julius S Walsh of St Louis, Missouri, invited 50 guests to her house on a Sunday for a one-hour soiree after which a St Louis newspaper reported that “the party was an instant hit and within weeks cocktail parties had become a St Louis institution”. On the other hand, there is also suggestion that it’s origins date back to 1798 when the word was first used in a London newspaper. Regardless of it’s origin, the fact of the…
“A black tie affair calls for a statement evening sandal”. So says iconic luxury shoe and accessories brand, Jimmy Choo and I couldn’t have said it better myself. A gala charity event calls for a dazzling shoe worthy of a red-carpet moment.  Whether your choice is for a fairy-tale shoe bejeweled with crystals or an elegant satin pump, a statement-making shoe packs the ultimate style-punch when stepping out at your gala charity event. Embellishments of jewels or crystals or finishes of satin, velvet or lace, your shoe style should be delicate and feminine, rather than heavy and chunky.  Styles that are…
In my previous blog on what to wear to a charity ball, I mentioned that a glamourous gala event gown warrants a ‘red carpet worthy’ handbag and a beautiful hand-held clutch, or more specifically a minaudière, is the perfect accoutrement to event dressing. As Google states a minaudière is “a small, decorative handbag without handles or a strap” but in general terms today it is usually a small, hard-cased hand-held clutch (can include a strap) often embellished with crystals, jewels or decorative finishes and in textures such as satin or metallic. The creation of the minaudière dates back to the…
Last week was Paris Fall 2014 Couture and I’ve been consistently floating off to fashion heaven at the jaw-dropping and glamourous gowns shown on the runway.  As they are still ingrained in my fashion-psyche, I thought it’s the perfect time to provide CharityDOs’ readers with some style advice and tips on how to choose that perfect dress to wear to one of the many charity balls and galas advertised on the CharityDOs website. A ball, gala or black-tie event is the perfect occasion for you to have your ‘Cinderella moment’ and wear a beautiful ground-sweeping gown, fairy-tale shoes, dazzling jewels…
With the advent of hyper-styling and an almost ‘anything goes’ attitude towards fashion, a few occasions remain where certain style edicts still apply, one being the high tea. High teas conjure images of flowers, frocks and femininity and your look must accompany the occasion and your surrounds and above all choose a style that says ‘elegant chic’. A high tea provides you with the perfect opportunity to bring on 'the pretty' and the ultimate style accoutrement to champagne and delicate nibbles is a gorgeous frock in a pretty and feminine style.  No other outfit fits the occasion more appropriately and…
One of my favourite evening gowns is a Kay Unger design (from Neiman Marcus). It's pink with a nice little bolero. Add a pink, cream or gold shoes and hand bag, and it looks great. Pearl earings, bracelet and choker are even better. The evening gown choice is amazing. I prefer pink, orange, yellow, black, green or brown evening gowns that suit my complexion as a summer colour person. A winter colour person might prefer jewel colours, such as deep reds, blues or greens. Black is also popular afor evening gowns and looks great in a style to suit your body shape. I prefer strapless rather than a…
I'd wear this dress to a cocktail evening or daytime DO - luncheon or morning/afternoon tea. And not just because it's pink! Designed by Kalinka and sold by Neimen Marcus, it's pink and lacy. It's evening cocktail party perfect with pearl jewellery and either pink, cream or black shoes and handbag.  For a daytime Charity DO, I'd wear pearl or gold ewellery, cream pumps and handbag, and maybe a jacket. For a Racing DO I'd add a pink and cream hat, orange or black hat - with matching shoes and handbag. Nice! Would you wear this dress? See more Cocktail, Racing and Luncheon Dresses…
This Rachel Roy dress from Neiman Marcus is colourful and nicely fitted. Cream and orange go well together and looks stylish. It's a good daytime Charity DO dress with cream sandals or pumps, and handbag. For a Racing DO I'd add a cream or cream/orange hat. Pearl or gold jewellery would look lovely! What do you think?
