Sydney Cycling Club Ride for a Reason 2014

Since 2007, the annual Sydney CC charity event Ride for a Reason (R4R) has raised around $290,000 for Bowral’s Tulip Time Festival and its chosen charities. This year's R4R is in aid of Guide Dogs NSW/ACT, which does an amazing job of giving independence and mobility to people with vision impairment so they can have the freedom to enjoy life, embrace new experiences and achieve their goals.

R4R is a challenging 165 km from Centennial Park to Bowral, via the Royal National Park to Wollongong, up the spectacular 11 km climb of Macquarie Pass and through the Southern Highlands. Participation is open to all cycling clubs and other keen cyclists from around NSW and interstate.

The event is not a mass ride nor a race. It is a safe and enjoyable ride with bunches of approximately 15-20 riders according to ability, regrouping at the top of all climbs. Please indicate your preferred pace bunch on the Registration form. Nobody gets left behind!

The event is organised by volunteer members of Sydney CC with Ride Captains and support cars for each bunch, as well as mechanical and medical support throughout the Ride. There are a number of refreshments stops along the way with most bunches reaching Bowral by 2 pm to enjoy the annual Tulip Time festivities. At the finish, the Lions Club of Bowral rewards everyone with a BBQ at Bradman Oval.

Fund-raising and entry fee
Your entry fee includes a high-quality cycling jersey, which we ask you to please wear on the day. Entry fee is $100 plus $8 postage for your jersey if you register before 6 September (late entries $120). NB: All non-Cycling Australia members must also pay an extra $5 insurance fee for the event.

Closer to the event, we will invite participants to book a return minibus ticket to Centennial Park, if required. Riders can also catch a train back home from Bowral Station.

Once registered, we ask everyone to please set up their own fund-raising page for Guide Dogs NSW/ACT via Everyday Hero. There is no minimum fund-raising requirement, but we encourage all participants to ask their family, friends and work colleagues to support them.
