The Midwinta Festival will be back in 2015. We can already announce the date for the Midwinta Gala Ball, which will be held on Friday 7 August.
The inaugural Midwinta Gala Ball held in the Savoy Ballroom of the Grand Hyatt Melbourne in 2014 was a spectacular success, widely acclaimed as "the slickest event Midsumma has ever produced". It was a social occasion - a night of festivities and fun, performances, games and a fundraising silent auction.
While the primary aim of the Midwinta Gala Ball is to ensure our guests have an amazing, entertaining and memorable evening, proceeds will help to fund three key strategic cultural proof points:
- Raise funds to foster the development of new and aspiring talent in visual and performing arts for the 2015 Midsumma Festival.
- Raise the profile of the Midsumma Festival throughout the year and provide a platform for the community to build on and develop additional activities and events during the winter season.
- Encourage and support diversity and inclusion across the lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and intersex community with supporters and allies.
Last year the performers included celebrated indigenous soprano Deborah Cheetham AO, alongside her partner in life and in business, pianist Toni Lalich. Other performances included Midsumma's favourite diva Dolly Diamond, revolutionary dancing group the Real Hot Bitches plus an outrageous fashion parade hosted by awarded milliner, Kerrie Stanley. Spencer McLaren was the master of ceremonies and DJ Kista was on the decks all night. The Midwinta official afterparty was held at the socialite cocktail lounge Ms Collins.
Please check back here a little later for details of the extravaganza that will be the 2015 Midwinta Gala Ball.
