The 8th March 2015 has been declared the day to get nude… again. We’re taking our clothes off once again to support The Butterfly Foundation in their positive body image crusade and to get into the Guinness World Records for the World’s Biggest Skinny Dip!

In its new location of South Beach, Fremantle, the Fig’s Naked Skinny Dip is a celebration of positive body image, health, wellbeing and diversity. It aims to raise funds and awareness for the Butterfly Foundation, a national charity representing those affected by eating disorders and negative body image.

Co-owner of the Fig Group, Lorna Marns, said this cheeky, large-scale skinny dip is about much more than just getting your gear off for a good cause. “It is an inspiring event providing the opportunity to cast aside concerns of body image, and celebrate every body, no matter the size or shape.

“Those who braved the rough waters of last year’s Skinny Dip, will be pleased with the new location - the much calmer waters of South Beach. Fremantle Council has generously allowed us to reserve South Beach for the Skinny Dip to ensure participant privacy!

“We’re hoping for 1,000 Perth skinny dippers, allowing us to smash the current Skinny Dip world record held by New Zealand with 745 skinny dippers,” said Ms Marns.

Paralympic swimmer, Jessica Smith, one of Australia’s most avid advocates for positive body image is the official ambassador for this event. Ms Smith says, “Women and men of all ages are subconsciously and consciously pressured to conform to societal beauty and body ideals. The constant barrage of negatives messages and images that we are fed via the media has fundamentally resulted in generations of people who believe they aren’t perfect and therefore should hate who they are and the way they look.

“The Fig Group is creating a fantastic opportunity for the community to come together to promote much needed awareness about the seriousness of negative body image and eating disorders. This event is an opportunity for people to join with their community and simply have fun, relax and promote positive body image by embracing their own bodies. It will undoubtedly be an extremely liberating experience!” said Ms Smith.

The Figs’ Naked Skinny Dip will be a fully ticketed, managed and secure event.
