The Copeton Freshwater Swim Committee has had their first meeting to discuss the April 11th 2015 Gwydir Shire Copeton Freshwater Swim. A number of changes to enhance the event were proposed and one of these is the increase in distance of the New England Mutual 2km to 2.5km.
With the showcase Sapphire City 5km event being run again this year it was decided by the committee to increase the 2km to 2.5km to make it easier with the course layout. Another change is to split the
McDonalds 600m swim into two races. The race will be split into under 14yrs girls and boys and 600m open Men and Women. This will mean a change in start times for all events with the under 14’s 600m kicking off at 10.00am, the open 600m at 10.05am.
The 5km event will start at 11.00am and the 2.5km at 11.05am. These times will be on the entry form. Even though the water level at Copeton Dam is receding the Gwydir Shire Copeton Freshwater Swim is promising to be bigger and better with all major sponsors committing for a third year in a row.
Also committing early is Armidale’s Peter Hancock. Peter is a very keen local swimmer and has been known to swim in the waterways around Armidale in the middle of winter in temperatures well below freezing Brrrrrrr! Peter will claim the award for first entry in the 2015 Gwydir Shire Copeton Freshwater Swim and is swimming the 600m and 5km swims.
Entries will be taken online again this year at the Ocean Swims website at www.oceanswims.com.au or you will be able to obtain an entry form from this website.
