Our relationship with animals is one of the most important choices we make in life. How do our choices effect them? Are we also a species of animal? Are we the most gifted species? What value do we place on our fellow sentient beings? And what is sentience anyway? All of these important questions will be addressed in depth at this fascinating event!
Join us for a thought-provoking and inspiring night of film, music, talks and food tasting at 'Animals & I' event on thursday 5th February in the sumptuos Great Hall of Sydney University.

The Film: 'Speciesism The Movie'
In 1975, a young writer published a book arguing that no justifications exist for considering humans more important than members of other species. It slowly began to gain attention and a growing number of prominent individuals and political activists began adopting its conclusions. They have termed the assumption of human superiority "speciesism”. Flash forward to today, and most of the animals used for food are raised in giant, bizarre “factory farms,” hidden deep in remote areas of the countryside. In Speciesism: The Movie director Mark Devries set out to investigate these issues and practices. The documentary takes viewers on a sometimes funny, sometimes frightening adventure, crawling through the bushes that hide these factories, flying in airplanes above their toxic “manure lagoons,” and coming face-to-face with their owners. Speciesism: TheMovie brings viewers face-to-face with the leaders of the developing ‘animal rights’ movement, and, for the first time ever on film, fully examines the purpose of their goals and ideas.
