Amnesty International Victoria's Urgent Action Network invites you to join them in taking action for Write for Rights this December.

Event: Write for Rights Brunch (food and drinks provided)

Date: Sunday the 7th of December at 11.00am-12.00pm

Venue: Hares & Hyenas, 63 Johnston Street, Fitzroy.

Come and meet the Urgent Action team and enjoy some delicous food, tea, coffee, discussion and letter writing.

Last year, Amnesty activists from 143 countries, including Australia, stood together for freedom, equality and justice. We picked up our pens, wrote letters and stood together for human rights. We and others like us from almost every corner of the globe wrote 2,373,422 actions.

In 2014 we need your help for six cases. These six cases have been chosen because it is highly likely that a global push right now will positively influence decision-makers.

Egypt: Al Jazeera staff -- three journalists, including Australian Peter Greste, imprisoned on charges of broadcasting false news and involvement with the outlawed Muslim Brotherhood movement.

China: Liu Ping -- a human rights campaigner, sentenced to six-and-a-half years in prison after calling on the Chinese Government to step up its fight against corruption.

Philippines: Jerryme Corre -- a bus driver, tortured by police in what could be a case of mistaken identity. Two years later, he remains in jail.

Saudi Arabia: Raif Badawi -- sentenced to 10 years imprisonment and 1,000 lashes after founding an online forum for political and social debate.

Uzbekistan: Erkin Musaev -- a United Nations employee and former government worker falsely accused of spying. Erkin was tortured then sentenced to 20 years imprisonment after a series of unfair trials.

Venezuela: Daniel Quintero -- a 21-year-old student, arrested on the way home from an anti-government demonstration and viciously beaten by members of the military.

We look forward to seeing you there!
