Take part in these local celebrations for White Ribbon Day and the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women, promoting an end to violence against women.

The breakfast is part of local celebrations for White Ribbon Day and the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women on November 25.

The event will highlight the commitment of schools in raising awareness of the issue of violence against women and representatives from local schools and the Department of Education and Community will be in attendance.

Some of the activities scheduled on the morning are:

  • Welcome address from Woollahra Mayor, Toni Zeltzer
  • Schools musical performances
  • Student art exhibition
  • Student speakers

The White Ribbon Campaign works to prevent male violence against women.  It is a male-led campaign that believes that most men abhor and oppose such violence.  The White Ribbon Campaign also believes in the capacity for individuals to change and encourage change in others.  The campaign seeks to change the attitudes and behaviours that lead to and perpetuate violence against women.

Anywhere from one-quarter to one-third, and even up to one-half of Australian women will experience physical or sexual violence by a man at some point in their lives.
