Diabetes Australia and Walk to Work Day have joined forces in a bid to get Australians walking again and to raise vital funds for Diabetes Australia and raise awareness of diabetes prevention throughout the campaign.
The campaign will finish with celebrations on Friday 14 November 2014, which marks Diabetes Australia Walk to Work Day and World Diabetes Day.
There will be 4 breakfast pit stops in key locations around the city, where we will give away a free healthy breakfast, information about health, nutrition and physical activity in a goody bag.
· Parliament House · Southbank Pedestrian Footbridge · Flinders Street Station · Melbourne Central Station
The annual event, now in its 17th year, aims to get Australians walking regularly and encourages employees and employers to build regular walking into their daily routines.
Participants can register for free and are encouraged to set a goal for the 6 week campaign, including walking 1km on Walk to Work Day, hosting a healthy breakfast and walking more throughout every work day.
Research of 400,000 people has found that walking an extra 15 minutes each day can help extend life expectancy by up to three years, while reducing the risk of stroke, heart disease and type 2 diabetes as well as increase mental well-being.
