For the second year, WISE Employment is bringing a unique stand-up comedy program and event to Australia – this year to Sydney – with the aim of helping end mental illness stigma.

WISE Stand Up for Mental Health (WSMH) is a stand-up comedy event featuring award-winning Canadian comedian David Granirer, founder and creator of Stand Up for Mental Health. Under David’s coaching over 12 weeks, a group of Australians with mental illness have developed their own stand-up comedy routines on the highs and lows of living with mental illness. Meet the 2014 WISE Stand Up for Mental Health comedians.

WISE Stand Up for Mental Health (WSMH) takes place on Thursday 30 October 2014, 7pm at Sydney Town Hall.

Get your tickets here, available from Ticketmaster.

Australian comedian and Melbourne WISE Stand Up for Mental Health ambassador Steve Bedwell will make a special appearance at the event.

Why is WISE Employment bringing Stand up for Mental Health to Australia? WISE Stand Up for Mental Health is about comedy for change. It uses the power of comedy to share stories of mental illness, empowering the comedians involved and making a positive impact on those who hear the stories. The comedians’ comedy routines aim to inspire people to rethink the stigmatised views society has towards people who have a mental illness and their capacity for living fulfilling lives.
