You are invited to the global preview of "Sumangali: The Untold Stories" in Sydney, Australia.

The documentary is directed by Suzanne Kim. In August 2013, Suzanne and a group of women from around the world travelled to India to meet women who had experienced and survived human trafficking. In her words:-

"It was in Tamil Nadu, the “Dollar City”, where we met some of the most vulnerable of girls, many still so far from experiencing womanhood, who, with no access to education and burdened with the responsibility of financially supporting their families were easily manipulated and coerced into a life of forced labor, sexual, mental and physical abuse, which sometimes resulted in death ..... I ask, “What can we do?” overcome with the feeling of utter helplessness. Their answer was simple. “ Please tell our story”. So here is the film as a small part of keeping the promise to share their story."

The film will be launched by Australian journalist Ben Doherty. After the collapse of the Rana Plaza commercial building in an outer suburb of Dhaka in April, Sarah Whyte and Ben Doherty produced a series of articles for the Sydney Morning Herald, exposing working conditions in Bangladesh’s garment manufacturing industry. They recieved a Walkley Award for their work.

Join us at 7 for coffee with the preview beginning at 7:30pm. This will by followed by drinks and light refreshments.

Entry is by donation. Many people have already generously donated their time, resources, equipment and money to share these stories with the world. This is an opportunity to for you to be part of the telling of the stories.
