40km. Nine hours. One day. Once chance. To change the life of a child with autism.
The largest and most inspiring organised autism walk in Australia is returning to Brisbane in 2014!
Take a Hike is the ultimate corporate and community challenge which inspires hundreds of Queensland's most community-minded leaders to put their best foot forward for children with autism at AEIOU Foundation every year.
Individual and team (4 people) registrations are now open and If you have any questions, email us today at events@aeiou.org.au
Take a Hike invites you to raise awareness for children with autism and close the $10,000 funding gap AEIOU experiences for each child in the program every year. As an individual, your challenge is not only to walk the distance but to raise $3,000! If you’re in a team of four, your group’s goal is to strive to raise $10,000. All funds raised will be used to support children in AEIOU's Nathan, Camira and Bray Park centres.
This year, Take a Hike Brisbane will have three scheduled checkpoints, each at 10km. The route will start and finish from Souths Leagues Club, Davies Park, West End and the checkpoints will be at Pat Rafter Arena, Tennyson, University of Queensland, St Lucia and Botanic Gardens, Brisbane City.
To assist with getting your training started a representative from AEIOU will be taking light training sessions on Wednesday mornings from 6am – 7am, meeting point, Kangaroo Point Cliffs Café. Please note: This is to assist you with getting started on your training. and to get your legs and feet used to walking long distances on hard surfaces.
Take a Hike is not a race - you, and all participants, will start and finish as a group. Walking the distance is a challenge for anyone regardless of their fitness levels. To help you prepare for the challenge a pre-event training program is available.
It is a physical and mental challenge but it’s nothing compared to the challenges children at AEIOU overcome each day. The hike promotes brighter futures and aims to help break the bubble of autism through early intervention.
Together, we will make a lasting difference to the lives of children with autism.
