Hello

May we invite you to a very special event on the Battle For Australia Day, Wednesday 3rd September 2014.

Called ‘The Inspiration of Kokoda' it features 4 exceptional presentations, two of the speakers you may know, Brian Freeman and Dwayne Anderson, who will share their inspirational stories of rehabilitation for Families of the Fallen and ‘Walking Wounded’ returning from Afghanistan and Iraq. Brian's account is one of those books which will make you cry! There have been at least 6 memorial services this year, in Southport alone, for returned serviceman who ultimately found it impossible to return to the homelands they risked everything to protect. All returning servicemen and women deserve our gratitude, respect and ongoing support.

The other two speakers are not so well known but have wonderful stories to tell of how walking the Kokoda Trail for them has changed their lives and that of the community around them. Recognizing and appreciating the Courage, Sacrifice, Endurance and Mateship of the servicemen in the Kokoda Campaign of 1942 by walking in their footsteps has set their lives on a new pathway for which they will be eternally grateful.

The second half of the evening is to have a ‘chat’ with Clarrie Meredith and Jim Stillman two of the few remaining diggers who returned from Kokoda in 1942. Both now in their 90's, they too are an inspiration and every moment we have left to share with them is precious. Facilitating this open mic. session from comfortable armchairs will be ‘The Godfather of Kokoda’, The Hon. Charlie Lynn, psc MLC who is flying up from Sydney especially for the occasion.

The event is to raise funds for a Perpetual Legacy Fund in Charlie and Jim’s honour to send a Young Leader from Queensland on a journey of personal growth, peer leadership and community service, to include immersion in the culture, history and story of the Kokoda Campaign in 1942 and upholding promises made to keep the story alive.

We will be introducing the first Gold Coast - Kokoda Ambassador to the event and officially nominating him (or her) to the Queens Young Leader Programme 2014.

During the evening we will also be hearing from very special invited guests with some inspirational surprises lined up!

We  do hope you can make it to what will be a very special night.
