UQ Architecture Second Chance Winter Sleepout 2014
UQ Architecture is teaming up with a Brisbane Women’s Homelessness charity Second Chance Programmme to hold a Winter Sleepout fundraising event.
Staff and students will sleepout to raise money for Second Chance supporting their work with homeless women in Brisbane.
Hosted by Wandering Cooks in West End’s Fish Lane, we’ll have supper of soup and hear talks by Second Chance speakers. We hope to see many architects, architecture students and supporters there. You can hear about the good work of Second Chance and meet the brave folks sleeping out in the chilly August night. Of course we hope you’ll also sponsor a sleeper or make a donation directly to Second Chance Programme.
UQ Architecture has held a Winter Sleepout charity event for several years at UQ’s St Lucia Campus, but we want to make it bigger and connect with the architecture community more fully. We conduct research and teaching about homelessness and its causes at UQ architecture, and also want to take some direct action to make a difference now. We need your support to show what a difference architects, and everyone, can make about this important social issue.
Date: Tuesday August 19th 2014, from 6pm for talks and soup. Sleepout until 8am Wednesday 20th August.
Venue: Wandering Cooks, cnr Fish Lane and Cordelia Street, West End (Wandering Cooks website)
RSVP by Thursday 14th August to architecture@uq.edu.au
