Celebrating Bidyadanga - Fundraiser - Swanbourne WA - Has Ended

We would love your company to celebrate the sharing of cultures between Bidyadanga Aboriginal Community and Swanbourne Primary School.

The event aims to raise funds for the continuation of a student cultural exchange program designed to build genuine relationships and value cultural diversity.

Donations will be directed to the program and are tax-deductible, given this is a Government School initiative.

PROVIDED:  Food, Entertainment (Swamp Donkeys band, kindly donated by Phil Warren) and Glassware.

BACKGROUND:

“Kids Together – Sharing Cultures, Sharing Schools” is a joint-initiative between Swanbourne Primary School and La Grange Remote Community School (located at Bidyadanga Aboriginal Community, 165km south of Broome).  It involves a cultural exchange program where students undertake reciprocal visits to each school to share experiences unique to their respective communities. 

The program commenced last year and is designed to promote and develop a better understanding between indigenous and non-indigenous cultures.  It builds genuine relationships and support networks between members of both communities and encourages students to appreciate the richness of cultural diversity.

The growing success of the program has meant the number of Bidyadanga students eligible for the exchange program has doubled.  Eligibility is based on attendance and behaviour and we are thrilled the program is contributing in some way.  Donations to the ‘Celebrating Bidyadanga’ evening will contribute to ensuring each and every one of these children get to participate in the exchange and share in all the unique experiences that come with it. 

Our vision is that more schools and more Aboriginal communities will be inspired to connect together so we can continue to grow the friendships and cultural awareness for all future generations to come.
