Annie's Army Story

In November 2017, surrounded by family and friends, Annie Lyngcoln lost her brave battle with massive heart complications.

Looking for a way to champion their grief, Annie’s family launched ‘Annie’s Army’ in early 2018, with a goal to raise much-needed funds for the Cairns Cardiac Unit.

“Our aim is to raise $10,000 per year to hopefully help other families going through tough times via the Far North Queensland Hospital Foundation,” reads the Facebook Group mission.

Since launching, Annie’s Army has celebrated several spectacular challenges including:

  • The 7-day hike of the Kokoda trail
  • The Cardiac Challenge, riding from Cairns to Cooktown X 4
  • Amateur boxing matches
  • Annie's Long Luncheon Fundraising event X 4

These activities have now become an annual event for Nick, Peter & Daniel, Annie's three sons in the hope to continue to raise funds and awareness.

The movement has had an overwhelming amount of support from the Cairns community and in 2018 & 2019 raised over $25 thousand for the Cairns Cardiac Unit.

**** Update as of May 2022 we are now at $55 k**********

With the $25K target for 2022 , Annie’s Army is hosting a fundraiser Friday afternoon (29th July) at Piccolo Cucina and would love for you to attend.

In addition to a delicious 3-course lunch and drinks, there will be auctions, lucky door prizes and a guest speaker, all for the generous price of $95 per head.

All profits raised from the event will go directly to the Far North Queensland Hospital Foundation.
