Belle and Sebastian

Belle and Sebastian is set high in the snowy Alps during the Second World War. The resourceful Sebastian (an adorable Félix Bossuet) is a lonely boy who tames and befriends a giant, wild mountain dog, Belle – even though the villagers believe her to be ‘the beast’ that has been killing their sheep.

At the same time, the Germans have arrived in the peaceful village looking for resistance members who are helping Jewish refugees escape into Switzerland. Through danger and adventure, Belle and Sebastian forge an indestructible friendship.

Set against breathtaking scenery and a dramatic time in history, and co-starring Tchéky Karyo, one of France’s most popular actors, this moving story will be enjoyed by the whole family.

DO Supports

Victorian Dog Rescue is a community foster care network focused on saving dogs and cats on death row in Victorian pounds. We run the Drought Dogs Program which has operated for nearly five years rescuing and transporting dogs from Rural Victoria to safe havens in Melbourne. We are a registered charity and with other groups have formed the Dog Rescue Association of Victoria Inc to act as a lobby group. Our support comes from the community that appreciates the value we place on the lives of our companion animals and the fact that all the money donated and raised goes to the animals. We are not involved in animal control at all: only in animal welfare. We save animals that have been abused and abandoned, and place them in foster care until they are adopted. We act as an advisory service for people wanting to surrender their dogs, to adopt a dog, and actively campaign for better conditions for domestic animals. We are a totally not-for-profit organisation and every cent we raise is used to feed and house the rescued animals and to pay our veterinary costs which can be prohibitive as our animals are treated the same as we would our own family dogs.
