KEY NOTE SPEAKERS
Chef Lillie Giang (The Food Affectionist)
Lillie grew up in Vietnam and at a young age her family were in a refugee camp in Thailand. Hear about Lillie's family and their journey from a poor village in Vietnam to now.
Lillie is an accomplished Chef, TV personality and a person who does a great deal for the community and working with young adults with learning difficulties. Lillie helps them to gain confidence and life time skill.
Most recently, Lillie and her team at The Basin Community House have been feeding those in need at Kalorama Community Hub and the volunteers.
Lillie will also introduce us to a simple rice meal as she would have eaten as a child.
Dr Douglas Hawley and Valerie Cunniffe (FORaMEAL)
FORaMEAL is an organisation that has provided over 3000 balanced meals every week to the poor in the Philippines. During Covid-19, FORaMEAL diverted their packaged meals to Melbournians who were unable to support themselves.
As a biochemist, Dr. Doug Hawley designed and formulated the FORaMEAL packs to include a balance and nutritious blend of carbohydrates, important fats and proteins together with a sachet of essential vitamins and minerals.
Each year, volunteers from across the Rotary network produce, seal and box approximately 150,000 meals for distribution the following year. All meals available for distributions in the Victorian COVID-19 Stage 4 Restriction were packed in 2019.
