Australia has one of the highest rates of skin cancer in the world. This includes melanoma and non-melanoma skin cancers. While the mortality rate for the non-melanoma skin cancer is lower than melanoma, up to 700 Australians will die from the disease this year.
Thanks to Research and treatment, 91 per cent of people with the condition are now surviving more than five years.
Knowing your skin and having regular skin checks for Early Detection can save lives.
But we can do even better.
In having Awareness there are five simple things Australians can do to protect themselves and greatly reduce their risk of skin cancer:
- Slip on sun-protective clothing;
- Slop on SPF30 (or higher) broad-spectrum, water resistant sunscreen;
- Slap on a broad-brimmed hat;
- Seek shade;
- Slide on sunglasses.
By following these five simple steps we can all enjoy a happier and healthier life.
Join Aussies in taking up the challenge to Walk for Mela-No-More Walkformela-no-more.raisely.com this November while getting fit, having fun and making a difference to support Research, Awareness and Early Detection.
