Walking Off The War Within 2020 - Ballarat - Has Ended

WALKING OFF THE WAR WITHIN 2020 - March as one...

On Saturday 29 February 2020, be part of Walking Off The War Within in Ballarat and help fight depression and post-traumatic stress disorder. Together we can shake off the stigma associated with mental health.

Join Emergency Service Personnel, Defence Force Personnel and members of public to walk in memory of Nathan Shanahan, a returned solider and firefighter, and other fallen Service Men and Women who have taken their own lives after battling mental health issues. Nathan was a fierce advocate for mental health and PTSD; sadly, Nathan lost his battle in December 2016. Walking Off The War Within is one way Nathan’s legacy continues.

The Challenge – complete the ultimate 20km with 20kg or... 

...walk any distance you can - with or without a pack.

We challenge you - your mates, family, colleagues and friends - to throw on your walking boots, grab your pack and march as one; everyone welcome.  

A family event

The day is designed for families to enjoy together with children's activities, education displays, emergency and defence force vehicle and equipment displays, music and more. 

The course

Held at and around St Patrick's College, Ballarat, the 2km circuit gives walkers the chance to walk and talk as one  and supporters the opportunity to watch participants achieve their goals. With a short, enclosed circuit, young kids can easily join walkers for a lap or two along the way. Nathan attended St Patrick's College and the school community is a major supporter of the event and men's mental heath.  

Tickets - Free, $10, $25 or donation 

This is an inclusive event that is available to everybody. This year, registration is available for $0, $10, $25 or a nominated amount of your choice. Money raised through ticket sales will cover event running costs, with proceeds donated to local charities that work in the field of men’s mental heath and suicide prevention.

Our focus is on raising awareness and participation for all. If you would like to make a donation as your ticket price, please know that Walking Off The War Within donates proceeds to Solider On, Survivors of Suicide (SOS) and Lifeline. 

• DATE: Saturday 29 February, 2020
• TIME: 9am muster for official opening. Walk to commence by 9.30am 
• CUT-OFF TIME: Walkers to be on the track by 1.30pm. No walkers will be allowed to commence their challenge after 1.30pm.
• LOCATION: St Patrick's College Ballarat, entry via corner of Russell Street and Eyre Street 
• PARKING: There is ample parking available around the College precinct
