DO Supports

Woombye Care is a small stand alone, non denominational, not for profit Aged Care Facility. Woombye Care was founded in 1986 with the sole purpose to ensure that there would always be residential beds for those in the Community who have their pension as their only income. At present 75% of our beds are occupied by residents who are deemed to be supported residents. Many of our residents come into care with minimal clothing or belongings and often have no family support. We use fundraising money to support these residents by purchasing clothing, ensuring they go on meaningful outings and paying for any required health needs or things such as dentures. Our staff become the family to the residents of Woombye Care and ensure they are provided with the support that a family network would normally give. We also have a purpose built secure dementia and memory support unit which provides specialist care for those with many different types of dementia and mental illness. Working with those with dementia and helping them as best I can on their journey is my passion. Woombye Care has a total of 55 residents and we are hoping to begin an extension later this year to add another 12 places. We also have 2 houses next door providing accommodation for a total of 11 residents. These residents are younger and therefore do not fit the criteria for aged care, but they are unable to live in the community independently as they require social, emotional and physical support. For 5 years Woombye Care has also been supporting a local family on the Sunshine Coast with an 10 year-old son suffering cerebral palsy to help with his ongoing physiotherapy costs.
