Hebron: the frontline of the occupation
In this session we will talk about the contemporary realities of life in the Palestinian city of Hebron in the occupied West Bank, covering these issues:
1. History of Hebron particularly since 1993/1994 (Oslo Accords and Ibrahimi Mosque massacre) - An understanding of the importance of Hebron to Palestinians and the implications of these two events for people living in Hebron.
2. Current situation relating to the Israeli settlements, Israeli army (IDF) presence and everyday life in Hebron for Palestinians - An explanation of the H1/H2 system, the consequences of the Israeli settlements and the IDF in the city for Palestinians.
3. Palestinian resistance to the Israeli settlements and the occupation in Hebron - A look at the community groups and organisations that are resisting the Israeli occupation and settler violence through grassroots, non-violent techniques. We will also examine what opportunities there are to assist from Australia.
