At United Way WA our vision is a future where every person is empowered to grow, through education, financial stability and healthy living – the building blocks to a happy life. We tackle entrenched community issues by building a strategic network of local organisations from communities, government, business, non-profits and schools. Our mission is to create long-lasting change by addressing the underlying causes of complex social problems together.

THREE PILLARS SEMINAR SERIES

This seminar series focuses on each of our core focus areas; education, financial stability and healthy living and how complex issues around these topics present in our society. These events aim to ignite a conversation, increase understanding of these issues and how they affect life in WA, and educate on what we can do together to improve quality of life for our whole community.

Currently, there are an estimated 1.5 million Australians living in a state of chronic or persistent disadvantage and research shows that this number is likely to keep increasing without comprehensive and targeted early intervention programs. We know that change begins when we LIVE UNITED, and that building a better tomorrow starts today. Join us to hear more about how we can tackle these problems together.

**Ticket price includes light canapes, drinks and transformational speakers.

PILLAR TWO: HEALTHY LIVING

Good health is vital to a happy and empowered life however, our community is facing a myriad of increasing issues that create a barrier to achieving health goals. Good health depends not only on access to quality health care services, but an understanding of healthy lifestyle choices and the opportunity to live in an environment that supports a healthy lifestyle.

Join Professor Cheryl Kickett-Tucker and Nicki Bardwell for an insightful discussion on some of the health barriers present in our community.

Professor Cheryl Kickett-Tucker

Professor Cheryl Kickett-Tucker is an Aboriginal Western Australian who is a Wadjuk traditional owner and has traditional ties to her grandparents’ Balladong and Yued country. Ms Kickett-Tucker is an Associate Professor at Curtin University, Honorary Research Fellow at UWA, Executive Director of Pindi Pindi Centre for Research Excellence in Aboriginal Wellbeing, a Board Member of Koya Aboriginal Corporation and a published children’s author. Her strength has been the translation of her research to Aboriginal health and community development programs covering topics such as; Aboriginal parenting and perinatal mental health, Aboriginal youth culture and racial identity, resilience and wellbeing, education and life skills, anti-bullying and a children’s basketball lifestyle program.

Nicki Bardwell

Nicki Bardwell is a proud West Australian, born and raised in Perth. In 2016, she stepped away from an 11-year career as a research scientist to join the NFP sector, taking up the inaugural CEO position for Fair Game Australia. A sports lover growing up, it never occurred to Nicki that other kids around the state didn't have the same access and opportunities that she did, simply because of their geographical location or circumstances. A chance phone call from a friend in early 2012 resulted in Nicki delivering Fair Game's unique fitness and health promotion programs for the first time in the Wheatbelt town of Quairading. Fair Game was a chance for her to merge all her great passions; sport and fitness, inclusion, regional WA and equality for all and she has a dream that one day all Australians will have access to healthy lifestyle choices.

Ticket price includes light canapes, drinks and transformational speakers.

A special thank you to our partner Herbert Smith Freehills for supporting this event.
