The Gift of Sound, a concert for Archie and friends with hearing loss ‘Music Man’ Barry Bull has a 50-year career with music which began with the ‘Sound of Music’, and later as owner of Brisbane’s iconic Toombul Music.

Fast track to today and Barry is a passionate musician, speaker, author, and grandfather. His ‘Gift of Sound’ concerts blend all his passions using words and music to share a true-life story, including the inspiration behind the Gift of Sound, his grandson Archie who was born profoundly deaf.

As a Hear and Say Community Champion, Barry Bull is combining all his loves in an entertaining morning, raising money to support Archie and his friends so they can continue to receive the gift of sound, on Friday 31st August at the Mooloolaba Bowls Club. We are aiming to raise $1,500!

The morning concert will be one and a half hours of great music and inspirational stories shared by "The Music Man" - Barry Bull & "The iPad Man" - Colin Dunkerley. Tickets are $29 which includes lunch to be served at 12:30pm. The Moolooolaba Bowls Club have generously supplied the room for free and discounted lunch to $10 meaning we are able to pass on a full $19 per ticket to Hear & Say. (The iPad Man is covering all fees and charges).

Barry Bull's grandson, Archie Cavanagh was born with seriously impaired hearing which was a huge shock to his family. But the day they found Hear and Say, Archie’s hearing, listening and speaking journey began. Archie received cochlear implants and is learning to listen and speak just like his hearing peers.

Just like any grandfather would, Barry speaks proudly of his grandson’s achievements. “Archie will turn four in a few months and his progress at Hear and Say has been nothing short of amazing. He is not missing a moment of everyday learning, and his social skills are simply endearing. I know I speak on behalf of the entire family when I say how grateful we are for the wonderful support Hear and Say provide, giving the gift of sound and speech to deaf children,” Barry Bull said.

“These concerts mean so much to all of us at Hear and Say because it is the true meaning of community spirit, thank you Barry, and my thanks to all of the people who attend on the day, your support is very special,” said Hear and Say Founder, and Queensland Senior Australian of the Year, Dr Dimity Dornan, AO.

We hope to "hear" you there!
