The MAD Foundation was created 18 years ago by a group of mates who wanted to give back to their community. Since then, hundreds of families have received life-changing support over the past 18 years from MAD, through equipment and services those families could not otherwise afford.

MAD Next Gen is a networking event for the next generation of Melbourne professionals who are committed to their careers and also want to make a difference to the lives of those in need.

Hear from Patrick Nestel, ANZ Regional Manager of JD.Com and Lauren O’Hara, Chief Development Officer at Half the Sky Foundation, who will who will share some insights into their career journeys, followed by an open discussion from the floor. They will also discuss how successful work creates and opportunity to Make a Difference, just as the MAD Foundation founders decided to do 18 years ago.

Patrick Nestel is the ANZ Regional Manager of JD.Com,and he began his career with a Bachelor of Arts at Melbourne University, followed by a law degree at Sydney University. He launched his own retail business importing products from around the world and selling them both online and through three of his own retail outlets, before moving to Coles where he held several roles throughout the business. In addition to hard work, Patrick’s current success derives from courage - he took his idea for JD.com directly to the company, described his plan to grow the business, and was given the job.

Lauren O’Hara is the Chief Development Officer at Half the Sky Foundation, a charity set up by Australians who were moved by the plight of orphans in China. Half the Sky is connected with the aid and development projects of global network OneSky, and the Australian charity gets its name from the Chinese adage, ‘women hold up half the sky.’ Lauren’s career also began with an Arts degree, where she majored in Public Relations, later progressing to a career in corporate affairs.

Be treated to fine wines and canapes, and network with other young Melbourne professionals to help raise funds for the vital work of the MAD Foundation, as well as contributing to the NextGen of MAD Foundation supporters. MAD is entirely volunteer-run, so your contribution will go directly those in need of urgent support. Visit www.madfoundation.com.au to find out more about the work we do.
