Amnesty International Tasmania presents a film about Dolores Huerta. She is among the most important, yet least known, activists in American history. An equal partner in co-founding the first farm workers unions with Cesar Chavez, her enormous contributions have gone largely unrecognized. Dolores tirelessly led the fight for racial and labor justice alongside Chavez, becoming one of the most defiant feminists of the twentieth century—and she continues the fight to this day, at 87. With intimate and unprecedented access to this intensely private mother to eleven, the film reveals the raw, personal stakes involved in committing one’s life to social change. Directed by Peter Bratt.

"In the 1950's, a working-class wife and mother of eleven children helps to establish a farmer's union, which later develops into a platform for feminism and gender equality"

Showing Dolores's story is one way to remind us we have so many BRAVE and influential advocates all over the world, and all of their work is appreciated and remembered.

One of Amnesty International's 2018 Campaign Priorities is:

BRAVE: Our Individuals at Risk work

The work we do for individuals at risk will be our top priority this year, as we return to the heart of what Amnesty was founded on — people standing up for the rights of people.

Our focus will be on human rights defenders (HRDs) around the world. These are the brave people who stand up for the rights of others, even when it puts them at risk of threats, detention, torture and even death.

‘Brave’ is the strength our Amnesty movement gives to HRDs and the power we create by working together globally.
