You're invited to Reef Leaders Training & Outreach Day with the Australian Marine Conservation Society (AMCS) in Cairns.

The program

The one day volunteer leadership program will teach you skills in creating change, strategy and communication. Feel empowered to create change through interactive workshops, connect with like-minded people over free morning tea and lunch, and put your new persuasive conversation skills into action during our last session as we approach local businesses to sign our Reef Climate Declaration.

All levels of experience are catered for. First time participants will receive all the information you need to feel confident in talking about the biggest threat to our Reef: climate change. More experienced volunteers will learn new skills and will be paired up with less experienced people when approaching local businesses.

The context

There has never been a more important time to fight for our Reef. Our Reef is facing many threats but if Adani and other coal mines in the Galilee Basin go ahead, this will fuel more destructive coral bleaching and mortality and allow hundreds more coal ships through our Reef every year.

The Reef tourism industry here in Cairns recently signed an Reef Climate Declaration calling on the federal government to rapidly phase out coal and transition to renewable energy. Now we're building the momentum by getting local businesses in other industries signed on. 

With your help we can protect our beautiful Reef and stop Adani & co's dirty coal mines.

The Australian Marine Conservation Society (AMCS) is the voice for Australia's ocean wildlife. We are an independent charity, staffed by a committed group of professional and passionate scientists, educators and advocates who have defended Australia's oceans for 50 years. Our paid and volunteer staff work every day on behalf of the community to protect our ocean wildlife. AMCS works on the big issues concerning the sea - the Great Barrier Reef, sharks, whales, marine plastics, sustainable seafood and Marine Parks. Our biggest campaign this year is the Fight for our Reef campaign. The Reef is at a crossroads and under pressure like never before. Our campaign seeks to protect the Reef from industrialisation, shipping, global warming, and Adani’s dirty coal mine, which will fuel more coral bleaching.
