Data61, Per Capita and Telstra invite you to a forum:

Lifelong Participation Through Digital Technology:

Driving positive change for older Australians, through technology

When: Monday 20 November, 2017
Time: 1.00-5.00pm
Where: Telstra Customer Insight Centre, 1/242 Exhibition St, Melbourne

Dear Stakeholder

We are delighted to invite you to attend our forum on Lifelong Digital Participation.

Hosted by Data61, Telstra and leading policy think tank Per Capita, this forum will bring together thought leaders and experts from across Australia and internationally, with a passion for driving digital participation, inclusion and empowerment as Australians age.

Following the CSIRO/Data61 report into Lifelong Participation through Digital Technology, the forum aims to transform the challenges of digital inclusion of older people, into opportunities and outcomes which support:

  • Ageing-in-place: Assistive technology, online networks, automated transport and many more opportunities can support older Australians to remain independent, mobile and productive for longer, but potential impacts for social participation
  • Mature workers who are less digitally literate are highly vulnerable to digital disruption and disconnection from the labour market, yet older workers have diverse skills, aptitudes and experiences to contribute to our economy. We need to ensure their digital skills match the labour market and support innovative ways for individuals to generate income
  • Regional and Remote Communities: Digital technology can bridge geographic distance, allowing anyone to access global markets, educational opportunities and social networks. Yet regional and remote communities in Australia have reduced digital infrastructure, leaving populations less engaged
  • Independent working (entrepreneurs, freelancers, share economy): Digital technology ushers in new platforms for income generation, but what is required to ensure older people thrive in this growing digital marketplace?
