All money raised from the 2017 Craniofacial Australia Melbourne Cup Lunch will go directly to the Australian Craniofacial Unit’s ongoing research into a 1 in 2000 genetic condition that causes babies to be born with fused growth plates in their skulls and an uncertain future.
The Unit’s craniosynostosis research is getting closer every year to a genetic breakthrough in the condition which requires major surgery at just six months old to separate a baby’s tiny growth plates. Craniosynostosis is also present in rare and more complex syndromes that may require multiple operations.
Craniofacial Australia is the fundraising foundation of the Australian Craniofacial Unit (ACFU) based at the Women’s and Children’s Hospital in Adelaide. Established in 1975, the ACFU is a world-leading medical centre for the treatment and care of birth anomalies and traumatic injury of the head and face. The Unit was founded by world-leading craniofacial surgeon Professor David David and has changed the lives of more than 18,000 patients.
