About the National Breast Cancer Foundation (NBCF)

The NBCF is the only national body that funds life-changing breast cancer research with money raised entirely by the Australian public. Breast cancer is the most common life-threatening cancer facing Australian women, mothers, sisters, wives, daughters and friends, and  1 % of males are also  diagnosed each year. With 48 Australians diagnosed each day and over 65,000 Australians living amongst us with breast cancer, there is still much to do.

With 8 Australian's dying each day, the aspirational goal of the NBCF is to see this figure reduced to ZERO deaths from breast cancer by 2030.  Research is the only way to prevent deaths, and improve how breast cancer is diagnosed, managed and treated. By funding world-class research, NBCF is leading the way in research projects.

Since 1994, NBCF has awarded more than $140 million to 470 Australian-based research projects to improve the health and well-being of those affected by breast cancer, funding research right across the spectrum – from understanding the fundamental basis of the disease to psychosocial research aimed at improving the quality of life for survivors.

2017 MacMurray Insurance Brokers Pink Cup

When:   Sunday 8 October 2017 from midday

Where: Luxbet Park Elwick

This annual thoroughbred race day, turning ten this year,  has a wonderful history as a successful grass roots community fundraising event, run entirely by volunteers,  and is  the largest charity race day held in Tasmania, having run in both Hobart and Launceston, with the cup race itself having been run across race tracks in Hobart, Launceston and Devonport.

In the years since inception, this Tasmanian race day has raised over $234,000 net profit for the charity, which has enormous benefit to the research that the National Breast Cancer Foundation funds.

Funds raised locally at this race day in 2016 have ultimately assisted to support National Breast Cancer initiatives like the Endowed Chairs program, ensuring two leading lights working on research into breast cancer can continue their vital ground breaking work, feeding into the global knowledge about breast cancer.

As well as raising much needed funds for a valued cause, the Pink Cup is also a fun and affordable event and brings together guests from within the state as well as from intrastate.

Tickets are $75 a head, and 20% of the ticket price is donated to the charity.

Auctioneer Hank Petrusma of EIS Property will again conduct Live Auctions, there will be silent auction items, Spin and Win, and a raffle will again feature, along with prizes for best dressed guests.

Call the Tasmanian Racing Club on 03 6272 9492 to book and contact Judi Adams on eventstas@gmail.com to discuss sponsoring, aligning, donating and volunteering opportunities.

Introducing the People's Choice, Vote for the Best Dressed Table at the 2017 MacMurray Insurance Brokers Pink Cup

As in previous years' at this event, there will be best dressed prizes, including a best dressed table prize. This year, choosing the winner for best dressed table will be over to you, for the people to vote.

Voting is as easy as buying a pink ribbon for $2 and placing it in the floral arrangement at the best dressed table of your choice.  Unlike other elections, you can vote more than once, and of course you can vote for your own table!

If people want to book a table and come representing a store, firm or brand, or wearing clothing or millinery by a particular designer or store, they can do so and maybe even win a prize for best dressed table!

With prior notice, the TRC and NBCF can arrange to have a laminated logo for the table to promote the firm the table guests are representing.

Please do make contact if you wished to be involved in this initiative at this year's MacMurray Insurance Brokers Pink Cup event on 8 October. eventstas@gmail.com
