The Jason Rich Foundation was established in May 2011 after a local Yeppoon boy Jason Rich was killed in a single vehicle accident on the 30th of December 2009 - just 29 days after his 21st birthday. The impact of losing a loved one lead us to the challenge of working towards reducing accidents on the road, in turn helping to prevent other families from facing the tragedy of loss. The mission of our foundation is to educate young drivers, through a defensive driving course, by providing them with the skill set and knowledge on risks associated with driving and how to act safely behind the wheel.
The foundation holds different events throughout the year raising money to fund year 12 students to attend a one day defensive driving course. Each course costs the foundation $190 per student and to date 1,352 students from Yeppoon and Rockhampton High Schools have had the great opportunity to attend. The success of the foundation is attributed to the generosity of the community providing sponsorship, donations and support in attending local fundraising events.
