Magicians are mysterious. During this month’s Chicks@Lunch we were entertained by a magician who did some really amazing tricks right at the table! What a fun lunch! The Gold Coast Chicks@Lunch monthly luncheon at the Southport Yacht Club is a great way to meet other women on the Gold Coast and support the Animal Welfare League of Queensland Inc. More than 100 women enjoyed the September lunch with wine or champagne and coffee or tea. This month’s luncheon on Wednesday September 26 included the sale of hats, clothes and other items for charity. Again I sat with a delightful table of women from…
Ten years have passed since the Mater Foundation held the first Olivia’s Lunch. The 10th Olivia’s Lunch happened on Friday September 7 at the Hillstone Gold Course in St. Lucia, Brisbane. I was one of about 450 people who partook of a lovely spring luncheon that raised about $99,000 for the neonatal services provided by the Mater Foundation. Director of the Mater Foundation Nigel Harris and others gave us an overview of the neonatal research and services provided by the Mater Hospital. We were treated to champagne and wine on arrival with canapés, followed by a two course lunch with wine. The luncheon was a…
What a fun lunch! The Gold Coast Chicks@Lunch monthly luncheon at the Southport Yacht Club is a great way to meet other women on the Gold Coast and support the Animal Welfare League of Queensland Inc. Nearly 100 women enjoyed a lunch with wine or champagne and coffee or tea. This month’s luncheon on Wednesday August 29 saw karaoke and dancing adding to the fun. I sat with a delightful table of women from Paradise Point, Sovereign Islands and many other Gold Coast suburbs. Chicks@Lunch monthly get-together, founded by Rosie Thompson Each includes a different theme and next month –…
Saturday August 25 saw us in Brisbane for the annual Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital (RWBH) Dinner at the Royal on the Park Hotel. This was a large event with a cocktail party followed by a formal dinner and dancing. The annual Royal Doodle Do raises funds for Motor Neurone Disease (MND) research conducted at RBWH. Over 200 guests gathered at Royal on the Park for an extraordinary night of entertainment, food and of course and plenty of doodling. Funds were raised for Dr Rob Henderson and his team at the RBWH MND Clinic to continue their research into determining…
The Leukaemia Foundation on the Gold Coast held a delightful and well attended morning tea at the Emerald Lakes on Friday August 24. The Tea Party included the Lady Mayoress of the Gold Coast Ruth Tate. The view across the nearby lake was very relaxing and the many women I met at the morning tea were very much enjoying the morning and raising funds for the Leukaemia Foundation. I met women from Surfer’s Paradise and many other Gold Coast suburbs. The door prizes proved to be my lucky day as I won a set of nice towels in just right…
Saturday August 4 saw us attending the Mater Foundation’s Red, White and Sparkling Dinner at the Hillstone Golf Course in St. Lucia Brisbane. The goal of the evening’s dinner was to raise funds for the Mater’s medical research projects. During the lovely event we heard from many speakers including world famous yachts person Jessica Watson and the Mater Foundations’ Director Nigel Harris (pictured above) who updated us on the cancer research being conducted by the Mater Medical research staff. Many dollars were donated and the silent auction brought in more much needed funds for this worthy cause. Attendees enjoyed an evening of…
The Second Chance charity held a lovely luncheon on Friday July 20 at the Baguette Restaurant on Racecourse Road in Ascot. Second Chance raises funds to support projects to help homeless women. Their goal is to change the way society responds to homelessness by raising money in order to facilitate the provision of accommodation and services for women so there are fewer homeless women in South East Queensland. More than 100 women who would otherwise have been sleeping rough have been housed through the SCP partnership with the Brisbane Housing Company and other agencies – through the ‘bridge the gap’…
