Saturday July 27 saw the wonderful ManUp! Dinner at the Tatterals Club Brisbane organised by Jill Costello. We all enjoyed a lovely dinner, dancing and many auctions and prizes whilst fundraising for services to help men affected by prostate cancer. Guest Speaker Bettina Arndt was terrific! The music group Soulcutz were really enjoyable and we had a terrific time dancing.  
The Second Chance charity held a lovely luncheon on Friday July 26 at the Baguette Restaurant on Racecourse Road in Ascot. Second Chance raises funds to support projects to help homeless women. Their goal is to change the way society responds to homelessness by raising money in order to facilitate the provision of accommodation and services for women so there are fewer homeless women in South East Queensland. Many women who would otherwise have been sleeping rough have been housed through the SCP partnership with the Brisbane Housing Company and other agencies – through the ‘bridge the gap’ program. CharityDOs recently visited with the Mater Foundation's Glen Harriss, Director of Community Fundraising and Leah Costello from Mater Chicks in Pink. The Mater Foundation, led by Nigel Harris, runs an extensive fundraising program including the Mater Medical Research Institute, Mater Little Miracles, Chicks in Pink and the Adult Hospital Ladies Auxillary. Many fundraising events are run by Mater Foundation staff, with a growing number of community fundraising events. Qld is a community based organisation dedicated to providing support for men affected by prostate cancer. July 27 will see the ManUp! QLD Dinner - Out of the Blue Step Out of the Blue raising funds to help men with prostate cancer get the support they need and deserve. Amanda recently met with Jane Leach who is Founder and Director of The Life2Project (http://www.life2project.com.au). Jane is launched The Life2Project and is personally dedicated to supporting women who have endured domestic violence and ending the cycle of domestic violence. Domestic violence is at epidemic proportions in today’s society. There are many contributing factors and mainstream services can't cope with the huge demand. Funding is being reduced for many services. Jane has many activities and events planned for The Life2Project and is keen to connect with women who wish to share their experiences of domestic violence - jane@life2project.com.au.
Cystic Fibrosis Queensland held a lovely luncheon on Friday June 14 at the Pullman Hotel Brisbane. Hosted by Mary Collier 4BC Breakfast Presenter we had a delicious meal with premium wines. The raffle, auctions and silent auctions were well supported. David Kier,the President of CFQ and Managing Director and CEO Devine Limited, alerted us to the CFQ forthcoming fundraising campaign - The Great Aussie Breather launching in September. 
Last Saturday was the Monster Garage Sale at the Gold Coast North Anglican Church in Oxenford on the Gold Coast. A vast array of donated goods was for sale including clothing, jewellery, knick knacks, kitchenware, electricla goods (tested and tagged) mini Bookfest, and much more. The sausage sizzle sold out and more sausages were sent for! All proceeds going towards the building of our new church facility in Billinghurst Road Upper Coomera adjacent to the Coomera Anglican College.
Yesterdays Friends of Make-A-Wish Gold Coast Luncheon was a fun affair. The weather was glorious and our lunch was privey to a spectacular view over Surfers Paradise on the Gold Coast.  We were treated to a yummy chicken main and a delicious pudding (with cream and custard) for dessert. Our guest speaker was Adrian Barnett, a Manager Health, Safety and Environment, who spent 27 years in the Victoria Police force. He received the Royal Humane Society Award for Bravery, the Chief Commissioners Certificate for Bravery and was undercover for 5 years investigating armed robberies, drugs and homicides. A great life story!
