Incorporated in October 1986 as the North Shore Heart Research Foundation, the foundation was established with a mission to give heart to future generations and to provide seed-funding for cardiac researchers in their quest for novel ways to reduce cardiovascular risk and morbidity.

In 2013, the foundation was re-named Heart Research Australia to reflect a national approach to funding cardiac research and in 2016, will celebrate 30 years since its incorporation. The 30th Anniversary Dinner will recognise the innovative and ground breaking research achieved by Heart Research Australia funded cardiologists over the last 30 years.
