Statistics show that 92% of children in foster care have below average
reading skills by the time they are seven years of age.
The Pyjama Foundation was established in 2004 to provide support to the foster care
community. The charity offers a one-on-one literacy-based mentoring program for children in
care — Love of Learning — delivered by volunteer Pyjama Angels. The Pyjama Angels visit the
child with whom they are matched at home, and adapt reading aloud activities and educational
games to the child's individual needs and capabilities. A simple idea … but life-changing for both the child and the Pyjama Angel!
