To give everything, give water http://www.care.org.au/water
Every time a child drinks water from unsafe sources in South Sudan they’re at risk of contracting a deadly disease – the water in the region is that dangerous.
Yau, a mother with small children in South Sudan, tells us dirty water is causing serious illness to the children in her village.
'Many people in our community became very sick, particularly the children' says Yau, 'the most common diseases were guinea worm and diarrhoea.'
And she is not alone. Dirty water is threatening children all over the world. It’s hard to believe but diseases from unsafe water and poor sanitation kill more people every year than all forms of violence, including war. Young children are the most vulnerable – they have not grown strong enough to fight these deadly diseases.
How CARE is helping
Last year, CARE helped more than 1.5 million people access safe drinking water, develop sustainable water management practices and improve hygiene and sanitation.
