DO Details

Many challenges and hardships are faced by refugees to make it to Australia.

Jamila walked at night in a Malaysian forest to get to Indonesia only to get on a boat to make it to Australia.

Jamila’s journey from Afghanistan to Australia involved walking many nights - with her husband and three year old daughter - through Malaysian forests to get to Indonesia.  How scared she was!  She had to get into small boats.  She lived in three refugee camps and detention centres before being released into our community.  Her family had no possessions.
With CatholicCare’s support she has learnt English and now knows about Australia’s schools, health service and laws.  She has also made some friends and recently found out she is expecting twins. She is so happy that she will  be able to give them a good life in Australia.
Walk/Run in your own shoes to support Melbourne's newly arrived.
